Crash Events

Collision and Non-Collision:
The terms collision and non-collision when used to classify an accident, refer to the first harmful event of the accident being a collision event or non-collision event. Collison events in a vehicle's Sequence of Events are all harmful (causing injury or damage) and describe the motor vehicle striking or being struck by another vehicle, person or object. Non-collision events in a vehicle's Sequence of Events are not necessairly harmful and describe events in the accident other than collision events. In SAFETYNET, examples include: overturns, jackknifes, fire/explosion, running off road, separation of units, downhill runaways or cargo loss.
