Rental Vehicles: As reviewed in the Selection Criteria of this site, FMCSA requests all crashes be entered into SAFETYNET that meet the specified criteria. Included are specific vehicles that may be considered "non-commercial". This extends to the inclusion of crashes involving rented or leased vehicles used to transport either commercial or personal goods. Note, in these situations the rental company would NOT be the motor carrier and its DOT # should not be recorded. Rather, the word "Individual" should be recorded as the motor carrier name. Personal information (address, etc.) and DOT # fields are left bank. All other applicable fields would be recorded normally.
