Login to Access A&I and SMS

If you are not an authorized user (FMCSA, State Partner, or motor carrier), please return to the A&I home page.

How to Log In via the FMCSA Portal

To protect your data and make access more secure, A&I and SMS now require multifactor authentication.
Users will no longer enter a Portal user ID and passwords or a U.S. DOT Number and PIN.

    Select the appropriate login method.

      select MyAccess.

    After logging in to the FMCSA Portal, select "A&I (SMS)" from the "Available FMCSA Systems" list, then click the "Go" button. This will take you to the A&I home page as a logged in user. To access SMS, click "SMS" in the top navigation. Icon


Why do I need a account? allows non-Federal users, including motor carriers and State enforcement, to sign in to A&I or SMS safely and securely. You will use your username (email address) and password each time you log in to A&I or SMS.

Note: Federal employees and contractors do not need a account, use the link above to log in via MyAccess using your PIV card.

If I already have a account, do I need to create a new one?

No. If you already have a account, for example to access a different government system, you can log in using your existing account to access A&I or SMS.
